one eats the other, 2025
Stoneware
one eats the other was developed out of ideation of the most effective and aesthetically endearing way to visually represent ecosystems. My intention was to demonstrate the intersection of the cyclical nature of life and death with the quiet knowledge and visual identity that exists in all creatures on earth. There is an inherent beauty to the devoured and devouring; a comfort in knowing that despite time passing and life continuing, ecosystems will continue the cycle and eat the other. The collection consists of thrown vessels with underglaze animal paintings. The glaze selection subtly implies unique visual identities of environment or individual animal. The vessels are arranged in a tier-like fashion, with the decrease in size indicating the next animal to be eaten.
